Expanding Opportunities

Cases used for the Project

When conducting our modelling, there were a few cases we had to consider. The data received by us from GSK was a set of data recorded for a winter period. Cases investigated in our projects can be seen in the table below.

GSK had mentioned to the team that when they plan to install the 20MW Biomass CHP, they would want to take the natural gas generators off and use them as back up supplies to meet demand. This can be seen when moving on from case 5 to case 6.

A solar array was modelled into the site to investigate the feasibility of using solar. As solar gain varies extensively during a summer and winter period, the cases 9 and 11 were modelled accordingly. Just like for solar, wind intermittency varies during summer and winter periods. In order to investigate the effects of seasonal change on wind power generation, case 8 and case 10 can be compared. As maintenance is surely to occur at certain points of the wind turbine’s operation, a situation where the wind turbine generators undergo maintenance was modelled under case 12.
