Increasing chord length up to some optimum value, in this case 0.4-0.5m, increases the maximum value of CP and the inflow velocity at which this occurs. Beyond this optimum, CP begins to decrease while the corresponding inflow velocity continues to increase. Increasing the chord also increases blockage decreasing the effectiveness of the turbine. Increasing chord will also increasing the amount of material required, increasing cost.
