The thermal storage and the boiler are sized according to the district heating scheme specifications. Firstly, a hand calculation process will be explained, assuming a thermal storage charging period during night and a heat supplying period during the day, due to the unfeasibility of undertaking a more accurate dynamic calculation.
However, in order to have a better approach of the real system, and knowing that in reality the thermal storage will be charged whenever a surplus supply of electricity is avaiable, software has been used to simulate the supply and demand profiles and perform a dynamic analysis of the system taking into consideration not only the heating requirements for the scenarios, but also the surplus electricity available from the wind turbines.
