An Investigation into CHP deployment in Glasgow

Our Vision for the Future

Our group doesnt want to constrain our selves to thinking small. We like to think "what if?" We asked ourselves, could this new approach to CHP be reproduced all across Glasgow?

There are 15,000 households in high-rises in Glasgow City Centre. With an investment of £14.4 million, annual fuel savings of £3.9 million result in a payback of only 3.7 years.

This is our vision for a sustainable Glasgow. With this system in place, 19,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide can be saved per year. The carbon investment is only £750/tonne.

Further Work

We believe that our exciting results should encourage further work into this area. Specific areas of further research are as follows:

Continue the study by investigating the suitability of other household types, such as private dwellings.
Perhaps initiate a collaboration project between the University of Strathclyde and the CHP manufacture Baxi Dachs.
Most importantly: we believe the best way to find out if something works is by doing it! Perhaps the best option is developing a real project with a housing association.
