Project Description

It is important to develop working examples of the advanced technologies to be deployed in future buildings. The Visitor Centre at BRE’s Innovation Park at Revenscraig, is a testing building to assess the effectiveness of various products, materials and technologies in a live environment. More specifically, their performance is assessed under the working conditions of an office area and a meeting venue. Findings of this development are useful not only for BRE, but mainly for any individual interested, researchers, and the wider construction and energy industry.

The BRE Visitor Centre makes full use of low and zero carbon (LZC) technologies as shown in the figure below:

The Visitor Centre though does not operate as it was initially designed for, by mainly recording higher consumption. The said project is firstly focused on developing energy modelling and efficiency strategies aiming at achieving Net Zero Energy Building profile for the Visitor Centre. The team assessed existing heat and power sources, as well as any potential ones, and looked at possible energy efficiency improvement means.
