Project Area: Dennistoun

The geographic location that the project is focussing on is the area of Dennistoun in Glasgow, Scotland.  This site was chosen because it is a typical inner city area that has many aspects to look at, such as industrial, commercial and various residential properties.  The area provides a very good basis for a net zero carbon community that could be applied to other similar areas around Glasgow, and potentially other cities in Scotland.

The map above shows the projects area of interest.  The geographic area has approximately 7000 people residing in it.  There are approximately 3300 households in the area resulting in around 2.11 persons per household.

There are several notable features in the area that could be utilised.  The green spaces can be used to place urban woodland or be a site for renewable technologies.  However, the area that has most potential in reducing carbon emissions is the Tennents brewery and the large amount of residential properties.
