Case Study Selection

Currently, there is much interest in the benefits of dynamic façades and as such their is much ongoing research within the industry. There are many different examples of dynamic façade technology emerging at the moment (outlined below) that may be incorporated into the building façade outwith the scope of our project as we decided to focus on four which we deemed to be most relevant and which we predicted would be most cost effective. These were phase change materials, dynamic shading devices, active smart glass technologies and passive smart-glass technologies.

Bioreactor facades
Dynamic shading devices
GAP solution facade system
Active smart glass technologies
Passive smart glass technologies

Photovoltaic (PV) integration
Phase Change Materials
Kinetic Facades
Double Skin Facades
