Project Overview

Overview

craik forest

The main scope of this project is to carry out a study about how feasible is to create a low carbon community. We will work in a specific case study prototype for the creation of a "Zero Carbon Autonomous Holiday Community" located in Craik, in the Scottish Borders.

However, the main purpose of our research will be to ideate a step-by-step methodology approach which could be used as a guide for other similar projects in order to explore the possible transferability to other cases.

As the most important point in order to achieve the creation of a low or zero carbon community is to have the enough renewable resources to satisfy the energy demand, we will mainly focus on how to predict and assess energy consumption as accurate as possible. This energy demand will be divided into three groups: electricity from appliances, hot water and space heating. The last step will be to identify the best match between demand and renewable supply taking into consideration whether is possible to connect the system to the grid or not.
