[Standby: the Bathroom]
For obvious reason we tend not to have a lot of electrical appliances in the bathroom, in case of electrocution. However more and more people are purchasing electric toothbrushes and also the use of electric shavers has risen steadily over the last 10 years. Costs of standby power in the bathroom are never likely to be more than £2, and wasted electricity is likely to cost around £1. These costs are not very significant on their own but it will be explained later why it is important to consider the effects of standby electricity not only economically and also environmentally. The reduction of standby power can help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and reduce the amount of electricity start needs to be generated.
