[Standby: the Bedroom]

In the bedroom we again are often guilty of leaving appliances on needlessly to waste electricity, however our alarm clock usually needs to be left on before we go to bed so we can get up in the morning!

For many children and students much of their time is spent in their bedrooms studying or playing. However it is important that all appliances are correctly turned off, when not in use to help save electricity. Many computer accessories like scanners, speakers, printers and external drives do not have buttons to on/off buttons and so are usually left on all the time as plugs may be difficult to reach behind furniture. This can contribute to most standby power consumption in bedrooms, along with way that many products are manufactured to have clocks on all the time or require reprogramming every time they are switched off.

At worst standby power in the bedroom could lead to you pointlessly paying out over £23 year. On average these appliances are likely to cost around £8 if left on standby all year

In a three bedroom house this could be almost £25 spent before you even start to watch TV or listen to your music!

Switch things off properly when you are not using them!
