FUEL CELLS

The fuel cell is one of the key components of our proposed system. However, the fuel cell is very much an emerging technology and has limited commercial availability. Several  companies (Ballard, Zevco, DeNora) appear to be approaching the commercialisation stage and these companies were contacted to supply information.

A 4 kW PEM fuel cell

On the theme of fuel cells, the group completed two major tasks. The first task was a detailed desk-top study to appraise fuel cell types and find one that was suitable for our needs. Click here for the results of this study. The second task was experimental work on a fuel cell. The characteristics of a small fuel cell were examined in the laboratory. The results of this experimental work are given here.
