ELECTROLYSER

The electrolyser is used to produce the hydrogen our system uses for seasonal and short-term energy storage. It is proposed that our electrolyser uses electricity from the PV array to split water into oxygen and hydrogen. The bulk of the hydrogen will be produced in summer (when there is a low demand for electricity) and used in the winter (when there is both a lack of sun to supply electricity and high demand for electricity)

Water electrolyser

A water electrolyser

Like the fuel cell,  electrolysers suitable for our needs are usually made-to-order depending on the technical requirements of the system they are needed for. A detailed desk top study was completed in order to determine the most suitable electrolyser for our purposes. Click here for the results of this study.
