The U-values adhere to the Scottish Building Standards Agency (SBSA) regulations at the time of the build (2000).
For heat losses to ventilation, the air changes per hour were assumed to be 2 ach for winter and 5 ach for summer based on SBSA recommendations.
Heat Gains
Values for the solar heat gains were obtained from the ASHRAE Fundamentals handbook for north, south, east and west facing doors and windows at a latitude of 56o north. Heat Gains from people and equipment were also taken into account according to the energy demand methodology.
Energy Balance
Energy balances were completed for both the visitor centre/tearoom and the outdoor toilets for a heating hour period of 24 hours per day. Based on these calculations, the total annual estimated heating load was 45036 kWh.
