With the appropriate energy policy and supporting legal frameworks in the developing country of interest, renewable generation technologies can become a beneficial approach to tackling the issues of load-shedding and unreliable supply.
This can be best achieved through a combination of, initially identifying measures to reduce the city’s demand in key areas, and subsequently, both utilising renewable generation to offset the supply shortfall from the grid, and also to diversify the supply.
This decentralised approach will hopefully reduce reliance on unstable, centralised governments to make energy decisions required for the rising problem of urbanisation.
