Conclusions

The main objective of this project was to construct a generic analysis tool for hotels; and this was done so that the hotel staff would be able to monitor and analyse the energy and resource consumption data they collect, independently and accurately.

This objective was achieved, and a tool was created using Microsoft Excel.  The analysis techniques utilised in the tool were:

  1. Detailed benchmarking based on normalised performance indicators (NPI’s);
  2. Single and Multi-Variable Regression Analysis;
  3. CUSUM (Cumulative Summation Deviation Method) Analysis.

We have also constructed two feasibility and cost-benefit analysis components for the tool.  These parts of the tool were created for hotel owners to gauge both the practicality and economic viability of installing a renewable technology in their building.  This tool specifically carries out these analyses for Wind Turbine and Rain Water Harvesting technologies.

In addition to the analytical sections of the tool, the hotel owner will be able to store both consumption data for Electricity, Gas and Water; and the climatic data for Heating Degree Day data; Monthly Wind speeds and Rainfall in the selected region. (The climatic data can be collected from the websites listed in our website)

A case study of the Jury’s Inn Hotel in Glasgow has been carried out to test the tool as well as to show it in practice using real consumption data.
