Welcome!

Welcome to the first ever Marine Current Energy Baseload Supply Strategy study.

What does "Marine Current Energy Baseload Supply Strategy" mean?

  • Marine Current, or tidal stream energy is caused by the movement of volumes of water with velocity and direction. Usually this is due to the forces of the tide.

  • Baseload electricity supply is a flat, predictable and guaranteed supply of electricity such as that obtained from nuclear power stations.

This exciting project investigated the potential of marine current energy to meet a proportion of Scotland’s baseload electricity demand. It was carried out by a group of students as part B of their MSc in "Energy Systems and the Environment."
