D.2  Import Demand Profile Using External File To Database

Exercise purpose:

To know how to import demand profiles from an external file to database.

1.  Import a demand profile from an external file.

To import a demand profile using an external profile, select the menu Tools and a pop-up menu will appear. Find the Import Profiles and then click it. A dialog window with the title of Open will appear and ask you to select the file that you want to import to the database.

To download a sample file (“R1.txt”), please click the link to view and save it in your local folder.

After you select the imported file, then click OK. Another window with the title of Import Data will appear, in which you can specify the new reference and name for this file when importing the file to the database. For this exercise, in the name field of this window, change the default name into the new name “Residential” and then click OK.

The data import is in progress. Usually it will take several minutes to get all data imported to the database, which mainly depends on the performance of the computer.

2. View the imported demand profile

To view the newly imported demand profile, you can select the Demand tab in the top left window frame.

Right click inside the area and select the option Load Demand; and the new demand profile with the name that you specified above will appear in the list of existing demand profiles within a new Demand Database Connection window in the upper-right frame. Double click on it.

You should see the Profile Name: field filled in with the selected profile and a graph of the profile in the bottom frame.

Exercise result:

Ability to import demand profile from an external file and view it.
