NigeriaNigeria is one of the biggest and fastest growing telecom markets in Africa with a population of over 155 million, attracting huge amounts of foreign investment, and yet stands at very low levels of telecoms market penetration. The mobile sector, shared by four operators, has seen triple-digit growth rates every year since competition had been introduced[1]. The GSMA Green Power for Mobile programme was launched in September 2008 to advance the use of renewable energy sources by the mobile industry to power 118,000 new and existing off-grid base stations in developing countries by 2012(2).
