Gas reservoirs are more largely distributed than oil reservoirs, but share some of the same features as the oil reservoirs.

This would be most likely to be implemented when the gas reseroir is largely delepted or has been abandoned. If the injection of CO2 takes place in a operating gas field, then it could improve the gas production by maintaining or improving the reservoir pressure. It is not normal practice, but there are some places where it is being done for environmental reasons.

Abondoned gas reservoirs may have been depressurised in the final stage of production, thus these may have fractured cap rock which will lead to the CO2 leaking out. However, if the reservoir was allowed to remain gas filled this would not present a problem for the disposal of CO2.
