The Capture and Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide | | |
Depleted oil fields
This has the advantage of the reservoir being thoroughly investigated and mapped during the production
life of the reservoir. An appraisal
of the history of each reservoir would need to be done in order to find if it is suitable of the disposal
of CO2.
Factors to be looked at would be the pressure reduction and the breaking of the cap rock seal, during
the production life of the reservoirs,
as this would compromise the reservoirs ability to hold the CO2.
This possible disposal method is being investigated at a site in California and there is another proposed
site in New Mexico.
