Week
01
The
group was formed and “Energy Services via the Internet” was chosen as the
working title of the project. Did general background research based on
the title. Had our first meeting with Prof. Clarke and got a more detailed
idea of what our project is about and which areas we should focus on.
Week
02
Did
some background research on the state of e-commerce but found very little
amount of information regarding the future of the emerging services we
are about to get into. Thought of ideas as to what we could implement as
a service, which were subsequently discussed with the rest of the group.
Took a first look on last year’s relevant web page. Found out what we should
not repeat this year.
Week
03
Met
with Prof. Clarke along with the rest of the group. It was decided that
we should not only propose a service but implement one and take the project
one step further than last year’s one. It was decided to focus on the air
quality aspect of the energy services. Looked into the possible air quality
equipment available over the Internet. Had the first crit and the introductory
part (my part) was criticised as being ...well, boring.
Week
04
The
group decided not to look at PM10s for monitoring as the sensors proved
beyond the limits of the available resources for the project. Looked for
websites with commercially available CO sensors. Did some background research
on natural gas.
Week
05
CO
was decided by the group to be our main service and mould was proposed
by the audience during the last crit to be an important and -inexpensive
to monitor- factor in indoor air quality. Did some background reading on
Mould.
Week
06
It
was proposed by Will to consider a “smart” service in order to complete
the set of services (safety, energy, health) but I am sceptical as to the
effectiveness of monitoring occupancy times.
Week
07
Having
done some research on the web lookng for the most suitable (i.e. cheap)
CO sensor we opted for the one with the lowest price (i.e. 0 ), provided
by Sixth-Sense. These sensors are ideal for the project’s purpose since
they are components and can be connected relatively easily with the rest
of the available equipment. Made preparations for the crit.
Week
08
This
week I did not contribute much because of illness. Cause of illness yet
to be clarified. Saw tunnel. Managed to stay away from the light.
Week
09
Discussed
with the group what is missing from the web page. Put together a report
of the state of the art of CO sensors and the technologies involved.
Week
10
With
the help of Glasgow University PG student Heraklis Dakis, constructed a
sensor signal simulator - an essential component for the demonstration
of the finished service.
Week
11
Completed
(along with Will and Murray) background information on the “Internet technologies”
report destined to be put up on the web page. Made changes on ‘final presentation’
slides.
Week
12
Went
over the ‘final presentation’ slides a few times and polished it off. Got
familiar with the demonstration procedures -as Will and Min were setting
the demonstration software up- so that nothing goes wrong in the final
demonstration. Rehearsed the final presentation.
