The
primary limitation of the Health Service relating to humidity is that
it does not provide analysis of the health state of the building occupants.
It is a preventative service designed to reduce possible adverse health
effects caused indirectly by high humidity levels.
However this limitation could be seen as an advantage when one considers
the cost and difficulty of monitoring either health parameters and/or
air quality in the home.
Secondly it provides analysis of indoor humidity levels, which lead
to mould growth in homes. It does not measure the conditions responsible
for mould growth within porous building materials. However there is
a high documented link between humidity levels in homes and the presence
of mould growth on building material surfaces. Following the remedial
measures described in the service should eliminate the possibility
of the occurrence of mould growth.
The main assumptions are that moisture is a limiting condition for
mould growth, and that mould will tend to grow in certain areas of
the room, predetermined by a trained inspector upon fitting the system
into the building.
