In order to validate the usage of the reanalysis data, it was important to compare it to a reference source. Through SgurrEnergy, Scottish Power provided us with real output of some of their existing wind farms and meteorological sites.

We used this information about wind speed and direction to produce the following relationship with the reanalysis data;

Note no monthly comparison for Dounreay due to lack of data (only 3 months worth)

A linear relationship can clearly be seen between the reanalysis data and the on site measured data. 

This showed us that there is a correlation between reanalysis data and what is actually happening on site.
