Academic Background: I have graduated at the University of Glasgow with a B.Sc.(Hons) in Civil Engineering with specialisation in Engineering Management

 

Professional Background: Site Engineer – Balfour Beatty Construction; Area Technician – Strathclyde Regional Council Water Department; Lecturer in Civil Engineering – Glasgow College of Technology; Lecturer in Construction – Nene College, Northampton; Lecturer in Civil Engineering – Glasgow Caledonian University.

Main teaching and research interests are in the area of Water Engineering, particularly Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems and in the introduction of a range of sustainability concerns to under and post graduate taught courses                                            

Group Working:

Camino Mendez, Miguel M.Sc. Energy Systems and the Environment

 

 

 

 

Nationality: Spanish

 

Academic Background: I have graduated from the University of Burgos (2002) in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) with specialisation in the Management area. I have also got a degree in Agronomist Engineering (BSc) from the University of Vigo (1995). I have got a 2005/06 Scottish Scholarship to undertake this MSc course.

 

Professional Background: After graduating as Mechanical Engineer, I have worked as a Consultant Engineer for three years with involvement in  Environmental Projects and the development of an ERP tool (software for the management of the company).

 

Professional Aim: My professional aim is to work in a company dealing with energy issues where I could develop my technical and management skills in an international and challenging environment, as I consider myself an interdisciplinary worker, easy learning and very self motivated.

 

"Some topics can be learned on lectures  but others just can be learned from people. During this group project, I have gained the experience of working in an international environment and I have learned many important lessons from my group mates such as technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. Goepfert,Carina M.Sc. Energy Systems and the Environment

 

 

 

Nationality: German

 

Academic Background: I have studied Energy Engineering with Management for two years at the University of Applied Science in Leipzig (Germany). In 2003 I moved to Scotland to continue my studies where I have graduated with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Paisley.

 

Professional Future: My academic interests and strength are sustainable development issues, energy conscious building design and integration of renewable technologies. That's why I am planning to work in the field of energy and environmental consultancy in Scotland.

Phoon, Hee Yau M.Sc. Energy Systems and the Environment

 

Nationality: Malaysian

 

Academic Background: I have graduated from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia) in 2000 with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons.) specialising in Power Generation. In 2005, I was awarded the British Chevening Scholarship 2005/2006 by The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK to pursue this course at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland.

 

Professional Background: I have been a Generation Planning Engineer for 5 years in Tenaga Nasional Berhad (the National Electricity Utility Company of Malaysia). I was responsible for conducting technical, cost and economic analysis, developing and strategizing the Long Term Electricity Generation Development Plan for Peninsular Malaysia. www.tnb.com.my

 

Professional Interests: My professional interests and strength are integrated energy planning, energy market development and energy economics.

Although each of us has differing ideas and occasionally opposing points of view, it was really a rewarding and fun time I have had with the group. An important element that I experienced of working in a group is the need of a common understanding. And success can be achieved by knowing and capitalizing on each other’s strength".

Siva Kumar, Shyam M.Sc. Energy Systems and the Environment

Nationality:  Indian

 

Academic Background: I have graduated from Anna University, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) in the year 2004 with a Bachelor degree in  Mechanical Engineering  with specialisation in power plant engineering. 

 

Professional Background: I have  worked as a Graduate Engineering Trainee in a co-generation based power plant which was an integrated part of a steel manufacturing unit. Being involved from the initial stages of the project that includes construction to the final running of the plant, I was able to gain a wide knowledge about various activities in the field of power generation.

 

Professional Aim: My professional aim is to start a manufacturing plant for renewable technologies.

"Realising the future potential for energy and environmental conservation in all aspects of our life, this course provided me with a good understanding and an excellent opportunity to work with a group of people with different capabilities, working on a real life problem and marching towards a common goal. This group project  provided was an excellent  opportunity for me to develop a good relationship with each other". Shyam 2006.
