Model definition - inter-zone connections

Aim

To understand how zones connect and the possibilities for defining various types of external boundary conditions.

Learning
Outcome

Ability to connect zones and specify standard and special boundary conditions.

Task

Instructions

1. Examine the connections list associated with an example model.

Explore the possibilities for defining surface boundary conditions.

Note that in principle any multi-layer construction can be applied to any model surface, e.g. extern_wall is just a label for a particular construction. Note also that there are alternative ways in which the environment on the other side of a surface can be defined (fixed, determined at run time, external, adiabatic etc).

2. Use the ESP-r application for automatic connection creation.

Select the connections & boundary option and then the boundary conditions check/clear option. Proceed with topology checking. Define the connections using the check via vertex contiguity option. Consider the option for setting tolerance.
