For our case study we chose to look at some aspects of a sustainable housing development at Shettleston in Glasgow, designed by John Gilbert Architects. The building consists of 16 dwellings, most of which are flats.

We chose this building because it had some interesting energy-efficient features, such as an atrium forming one of the stairwells, and a heating system that uses a heat-pump drawing heat from water in an old coal mine 100m below the surface. Another reason for our choice was the ready availability of information from the architect.
