The Construction industry
has a major part to play in the conservation of fuel and power.
For this reason the project
has researched the current situation of construction villages
looking at conventional accommodation design and regulations and
standards applying to this type of temporary accommodation.
Problems regarding energy use
and environmental comfort have been identified and addressed by
creating a methodology whose outcomes can assist companies in
improving their own construction villages.
The project aimed to identify
various ways to improve the energy efficiency of construction
villages. This has been done by:
-
Assessing measures which
will reduce the energy demand.
-
Evaluating supply options
which will provide a more efficient supply
Our
recommendations for all construction companies are:
-
Use cabins of a good
insulation standard
-
Install heating and
lighting control
-
Use energy efficient
lighting and other electronic equipment
-
Install ventilation
system with heat recovery in drying room
-
Increase energy
awareness of employees
-
Select generators by
evaluating the maximum demand required
-
Consider the use of wind
turbines with battery storage to supplement the generator
Benefits
obtained by implementing the recommended measures are:
Major energy cost savings
