Work Experience |
|
BP Grangemouth |
May 1999 - Present |
I am currently employed as a condition monitoring technician at BP Grangemouth, which involves all aspects of condition monitoring of rotating and reciprocating machinery, including vibration and lubricating oil analysis. In addition to in-depth field analysis, I carry out root cause failure investigations, failure analysis mechanisms, and machinery acceptance testing to ISO and API standards. My experience covers a wide range of machinery including centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, electric motors, steam turbines, gearboxes, compressors and all associated subsidiaries as well as statics including pipe-work and vessels. I am familiar with various condition monitoring software packages and peripherals including SKF and IRD packages, in addition to on-line monitoring systems from Bently Nevada and Pruftechnik. I currently have a city and Guilds in vibration analysis from Entek-IRD, which I passed with distinction. |
|
BP Oil Refinery |
May 1997 – May 1999 |
I was experienced with all the testing methods carried out within the laboratory and was fully flexible in this context. I was responsible for the calibration and upkeep of several laboratory instruments, which required troubleshooting instrumentation problems, carrying out routine maintenance, and ensuring sufficient quantities of consumables to deliver high availability of apparatus. I was also responsible for training personnel in the appropriate use of these instruments and was an assessor for the LPG Training programme. The generation of Fiscal Reports for both BP Chemicals and FPS was a laboratory duty, which I was actively involved in. I was confident with all laboratory PC packages such as LIMS, RIS, Multichrom and all analysis and reporting packages. |
|
Lanstar (Scotland) Ltd |
Sept. 1996 - April 1997 |
I was employed as a Technical Support Chemist with Lanstar (Scotland) Ltd, however, I was based at NEC Semiconductors (UK) Ltd as their sole Waste Management Consultant. This gave me the opportunity to manage my own time as well as others, which developed my time management skills. I was responsible for the consignment of all Special Waste leaving the NEC site and, in turn, arranged and overseen any Special Waste removals to ensure current legislative procedures were adhered to. The job itself required a lot of ‘thinking on your feet’, which made me a confident decision maker. All non-hazardous waste uplifts by sub-contracting companies such as UK Waste, Tracey Timber and Patersons were under my jurisdiction. As part of my ongoing training, it was imperative that I was familiar with the latest methods and technology to adhere to all the legal requirements. |
