First week

  • Introduction to group members
  • Overview of the subject
  • Our interpretation of the project
  • Literature review

Second week

  • Our first consideration about an offshore wind farm is a fact!
  • Literature and critical review about the topic
  • We decide to focus as soon as possible in order to have time to develop the project

Third week

  • Change of plans after the last crit
  • The topic of offshore wind farm was not a good choice because it was similar as a topic in the previous year
  • Everything from the beginning again!
  • We are not very creative of generating ideas and the brainstorming session didn’t help us very much

Forth week

  • After a discussion with Professor Clarke we considered some other ideas
  • We decided that Distributed Generation is an interesting area and we should develop a project for this area
  • We started thinking about the economical, environmental and social aspects of our project
  • Literature and critical review about the topic of Distributed Generation
  • We discussed our new topic with Dr S. Jovanovic and he agreed for this project
  • This was a crit week. We presented the basic concept of our project but there were some uncertainties in our general concepts. It was still complicated

Fifth week

  • We tried to define our objectives and our base line
  • We try to focus to more technical details
  • We decided to focus to the North West of Scotland because of the potential of renewable sources and the weakness of the electricity grid in that area
  • Collecting information for the Hydro and Wind potential in the area and also for the Demand (domestic, non-domestic customers, etc.)

Sixth week

  • Follow the plan of the previous week
  • We have the first results from our calculations about the demand and the Hydro and Wind potential
  • We decided to apply distributed generation by covering the base load of the demand
  • The crit did not go well. We must redefine some aspects of our project. They are not very optimistic about the objectives and the deliverables of our study.

Seventh week

  • We got into deep thinking about what we are doing and how we could be more clear about our objectives and also our contribution
  • According to our calculations a small-hydro power plant will be the best solution for meeting the demand
  • Studying the technical details of the small-hydro distributed generation power plant for our case study
  • Additionally, the barrier of matching and dispatching the supply to the demand was decided to be solved by developing a program in LabView environment

Eighth week

  • We started thinking about the layout of the web-site
  • Continuing studying the technical details of the small-hydro distributed generation power plant for our case study
  • Starting developing the program in LabView

Ninth week

  • Completing the study for the technical details of the small-hydro distributed generation power plant for our case study
  • Thinking of how and with what order we are going to present the work (demand and supply profiles, technical details of the plant, economic analysis, etc.) we finished until then at the web-site
  • The program in LabView is in a good progress
  • We had a bad crit because we tried to show all of our work with a lot details and not to explain from the results the benefits of this work

Tenth week

  • The program of LabView has been finished
  • Adding our latest work at the web-site
  • Constructing the rest texts (introduction, conclusions, etc.) for the web-site

Eleventh week

  • We started thinking of what is more important to be presented at the final presentation
  • Preparation of the slides which will be presented at the final presentation

Twelfth week

  • Finishing the slides for the final presentation
  • Final presentation
