Project Approach

A case study based approach was chosen for the project. This provided two clear benefits:

A finite solution could be arrived at. By developing dedicated software, it was possible to perform accurate financial and technical appraisal of the system deployed. This would allow some of the arguments regarding small-scale deployment and distributed energy to be investigated.

A detailed literature search accompanied this project. A large number of small-scale renewable energy case studies were found. However, there did not appear to be a consistent methodology used to carry out the feasibility study. A key deliverable of the project was therefore the development of a methodology.

By then conducting a case study the applicability of the methodology developed could be evaluated.
