ESP-r: Validation
Current capabilities
ESP-r facilities and capabilities for validating ESP-r are as follows:
- Validation exercises include analytical tests, inter-program comparisons
and empirical validation studies within several IEA Tasks, EC projects (PASSYS
and others) and national projects (EPSRC funded). There is a summary
document
(including references to detailed reports) on the ESRU website.
- A number of benchmarks tests are used routinely before each release
and at other times to check whether code modifications have resulted
in changes to predictions.
- ESP-r supports simi-automated running of the BESTEST suite
- ESP-r has an in-built analytic test facility for conduction
processes.
The aim of these facilities is to allow users and developers to
compare ESP-r with a range of standard tests.
Primary routines
- Benchmark tests, scripts for running them and standard results
are in the code distribution in directories:
- validation/QA
- validation/CFD
- validation/analytical
- validation/BESTEST
Primary subroutines and variables
- esruvld/anlytc.F - xx
- esruvld/mvalid.F - xx

Issues arising
Possible improvements identified are:
- Validation models placed on-line for checking by developers and users
- an on-line validation check.
- Extension of benchmark tests to cover more areas, including CEN standard
tests.
