HEM
The modelling program used in our project is the Home Energy Model (HEM), a simplified building energy modelling tool which allows the assessment of retrofit options. An image of the user interface of HEM is shown to the right.
The specification of the fabric, services and other key data for the building is based around drop-down menus, shown as the grey cells. Specifying the parameters defined for each of the 72 building types created allows the base models to be generated. Changes to the drop-down menu specifications as well as specific U-values for building elements allows the models for the retrofit levels to be generated. For each model, the results can be archived in Microsoft Excel, which allows post processing of the results to generate the Scottish building stock model.
