The Capture and Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide

bullet1 The Environmental Reasons

bullet2 Stabilisation of the Environment

If we carry on emitting the level of emissions at the current rate, by the year 2030 we will have effectively doubled the pre-industrial concentrations. However by 2100, the concentration levels could, at least, be effectively be trebled. Even if we are able to freeze the global emissions of carbon dioxide at their present levels we would only be able to move the date of caron dioxide concentration doubling to 2100. To push the date of the doubling of the concentrations to sometime beyond 2100, the carbon dioxide emissions would have to cut to about 30% of their present levels. But as the world economy and population is set to grow, it would take dramatic improvements in engery efficiencies and complete change in thinking and operations in other sectors. Part of this change will have to the capture the carbon dioxide at the source of emissions and the sequestration on the captured carbon dioxide. But the capture and sequestration of carbon dioxde could possibly have their own effects and problems for the environment.
